Acid reflux, its causes, and its treatment

Acid Reflux is a common digestive problem. It causes a burning sensation in the chest. The disorder is estimated at more than 20 percent of the Americans.
Causes of Acid Reflux
The causes of acid reflux are

The treatment of acid reflux include antacids, acid-reducing medicines, and acid-blocking medicines.
  1. Antacids: The antacids provide very quick relief to stomach acid. However, only antacids can’t heal the esophagus that is inflamed. Also, the over usage of some antacids also have some side effects such as kidney problems or diarrhea.
  2. Acid Production Reducing Medicines: The medicines that are used to reduce the acid production do not act as quick as antacids. However, they provide long relief and can decrease the production of stomach acid for up to 12 hours.
  3. Acid Production Blocking Medicines: The proton pump inhibitors (PPI drugs) are very stronger drugs. They are strong acid blockers which heal the damaged tissues in the esophagus.
 The flow of acid from the stomach back into the esophagus is called acid reflux. It is a common problem in digestion. Some of the cause of acid reflux is a hiatal hernia and consuming of beverages and tobacco.
